Subject: Vamoose' Re-Drive Description: The old input shaft of my reduction drive had the input shaft/sprocket as one piece, and it turned out to have been hardened to R60. I believe the combination of over-hardening (which would make it more brittle), and rigidity in the assembly is what caused this thing to break. Input shaft was 5/8" O.D, which to my magical eye is marginal, as well. The new shaft is 1.07" O.D., is hardened to R45, and is splined at both ends. I believe (hope) this will give the ability to flex a little, and not be quite so brittle; as well as being much more massive overall. Time will tell. I'll have it back on Vamoose tomorrow (Monday) and will start cleaning the fuel system then, in preparation to re-light the fires..................hopefully next weekend. Gotta have this thing running for Mr. Bean, or face huge embarrassment. -Lar
