Subject: Ultra Star Restoration Progress Description: Here are some shots of my Ultra Star as it stands now. So Far I have stripped the fuselage cage and tail boom, primed and repainted both. Skinned the cage with .035 2024-T3, etched, primed and painted that. Constructed a nose pod of .025, 2024-T3 with a fiberglass nose, etched, primed and painted that. Constructed and installed a Lexan windshield. Added 4 1/2" drum brakes operated by heel pedals. Drilled out all the carbon steel rivets from the tail feathers and replaced them with stainless rivets, it had lots of rusty rivets. Covered and painted the tail feathers. Next and not least are the wings. I have begun replacing rusty rivets, made some repairs to some damaged ribs and am working on drag strut braces to keep the drag struts in column. When finished, I will cover and paint the wings in the same pattern as the tail feathers. The engine runs good, it is a Cuyuna. I've run it several times for five minutes at full power with no problems. Static rpms w/wot is about 6350. THEN I SHOULD BE READY TO FLY! -Dale Sellers
