Subject:   Rivet-gun double off-set holder for one hand operation.
Description:

The attached photos show an arrangement to securely hold and orient a double off-set rivet set that I have used successfully for driving AN-470 rivets in tight places using one hand to man the gun and the other, to man the bucking bar.

The rivet-gun is an ATS 3X and by great coincidence, the barrel is slightly larger than 1 1/2" diameter and I found I could fit an exhaust-pipe extender, (1 1/2" I.D. to 1 1/2" O.D.) on to the gun as shown. The rivet set is held in with a Beehive retainer and a slot is cut into the pipe to allow the tab of the retainer to protrude through. Another slot is cut into the pipe at its end which is tailored to fit the diameter of the shank of the rivet set. the slot is filed so that the set can move freely to drive the rivet but it cannot rotate, which is the bane of off-sets. I thought that I might have to use a hose-clamp around the pipe at the gun barrel but I found it was not necessary because of the snug fit there. I found that 50 PSI was a good pressure setting for this gun.
