Subject: Mt. Hoot Rescue Effort Description: Shot from N3773 5/30 at 9,500', 3 miles away(because of TFR). If you zoom in you can see rotor blade fragments in the snow, climbers on the ridge, and just the tip of the tail rotor of the downed Pave. chopper. One airman had the chopper actually roll over him twice before his belt tore loose. He was not too badly injured, thanks to soft snow conditions. Large rock to the left is Crater Rock at 10,000', summit at 11,200'. Lower right rocky area is a femorole, a active volcanic vent where warm gasses escape(and smell like rotten eggs) They do not have enough oxygen to support life, so you die from asphixiation should you fall into one. Sound like fun? I've climbed Hood several times from this south side and once from the north(never again!). Kevin
