Subject: Mark III Lift Handle and Dolly Description: Our new Mark III has been kept at a local airstrip [unfolded] until recently. I have it at home now and have needed to fold it between flights. Sure is a much heavier beast than the earlier TwinStar models we've had over the years. In order to save my aging back, I created a "tail dolly" for the Mark III that has worked out beautifully for moving the bird easily around on blacktop. Although I've made and used the 'electrical conduit lift handles' on several other Kolbs that we've had, the tail dolly is a new and welcome addition.
Very little is 'sqaure' on the dolly since the fuselage tube rides at a slight angle and the wings angle in toward the tail when they are pinned. You have to be careful (and need an extra set of hands to help) when building the dolly so everything fits nicely. However, I can now easily move the Mark III with the leading edge of the wing high enough not to scrape but with the tail low enough to clear our barn door.
