John McAllister's RV-6a
![]()
June 10, 2000 - I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with John McAllister of Livermore California and his new RV-6a. John has been about 3 1/2 years on this fine project and is ready for his test flight. He has already received his FAA sign off and was given a 25 hour test period and a 50 mile radius.
John's RV-6a has a mid-time O360 that came out of a Piper Seneca along with a new Constant Speed prop from Van's. Some interesting goodies in the instrument panel include a Color Skyforce Skymap IIIC, AP-1 Auto pilot, and a Matronics FuelScan DX.
At the time of this writing, John was putting the finishing touches on his -6a in preparation for his first flight. John reported that his first engine run went smoothly and was uneventful. The O360 that he installed has a front-mounted prop governor which required a bit more work in terms of cowling modifications and control bracket mounting.
John has done an excellent job on this -6a and I'm anxious for him to take me for a ride. Great work John!
