Installing Elevators

Many builders have difficulty installing the spacers that go between the inboard face of the elevator control horns and the centre bearing on the rear spar of the HS. One easy way to do this is:

• Before you install the first elevator, slip the bolt through the hole on one control horn, then put the spacers for that side over the bolt.
• Next, carefully slip the end of the bolt through the centre bearing, then slip the other hinges in place and insert the bolts (or temporary hinge pins).
• Finally, put the spacers for the other side over the end of the bolt, then slip the hole in the other control horn over the bolt and then slip the other hinges in place.
