--> Engines-List message posted by: Mickey Coggins <mick-matronics@rv8.ch> Hi, I saw a quick note about these guys in a recent EAA newsletter, but when I went to their site, there was nothing there. Now, they seem to have something, and it looks pretty interesting. http://www.mistral-engines.com/ Their timeframes are a bit late for my RV8, but it's good to see some development on the rotary engine. --> Engines-List message posted by: "Ed Anderson" <eanderson@carolina.rr.com> Mistral was at Sun & Fun in the Rotary Engine Tent most of the week. They had their PSRU (Magnesium casting) with accessory drives and it looked aircraft quality as did their entire system. The entire system is clearly well engineered and of "certification" fit and function. They are working with Embry Riddle on a flight test program. They have an uproad and $$$ battle to get the engine certified and they have indicated that they may first offer the engine to the experimental market. While no price has been decided, I suspect it will run close to the Lycoming series. It will truly be a FWF package bolting up to standard dynofocal motor mounts. The RV market would probably be their focus due to its size and the fact their are a number of rotary powered RVs flying. Of course, this is mainly conjecture on my part so hopefully we will see what their intentions are over the new several months. From talking with one of their Vps and their Chief Engineer I was favorable impressed with their knowledge and development program. I hope they are successful as a rotary engineered from the ground up for aircraft will make a truly impressive and reliable aircraft engine.
