Jacques,
I read page 37 and that was one of the reason for my question. I believe
the LAA is very conservative. Would TruTrak still be in business today
if their products were as bad as the LAA says?

Hi Remi,
I have no experience of the Tru Trak Gemini unit and I am also a bit
puzzled by their use of a Velocity Vector Pitch Display for attitude
indication.
If you would like to replace your vacuum gyro display, I suggest that
you consider the Grand Rapids Technology range of Mini products - the
MiniB, Mini-X and Mini-AP.Grand Rapids is a reliable and very high
quality company which has been in the business for many years. For
example, they have over 22,000 of their EIS engine instrumentation units
in flight. The features and synthetic vision which can be packed into
the Mini units are truly remarkable. Jeppesen data bases are available
for Europe.
I would have no hesitation in using this equipment in actual IMC. For
example, 'Highway in the Sky' (HITS) is particularly useful. At a $1,395
base price, the Mini-X unit is excellent value and will drive autopilot
servos with basic heading and altitude select, plus GPS tracking. See
http://grtavionics.com/mini.html If you scroll down, you will find
the list of features.
I happen to use a Dynon D10A which lacks many of the Mini features and
is more expensive. However, when I bought my equipment, the GRT Mini
units were not available.

Hi Remi and others,
I will add my 2 pence to this thread.
I have experience with GRT and their products. I have installed the
Sport on my Europa
and have installed other GRT products for other folks on other aircraft.
I am very pleased with the GRT line of EFIS. I plan on installing a
Mini-X on the Little Toot Sport Biplane that I am currently building.

So what im understanding is that it should work out of the box provided
that you get the right parts?
Also one would want a back electric pump....just in case?

William,
It should work right out of the box if it is supplied with the correct fitti
ngs. Make sure you specify hose barbs or flare fittings or whatever you us
e on your fuel lines.
Yes, you should keep one electric pump. Also allows you to have an extra e
lectric pump stashed away, just in case the one in the aircraft packs in. T
hose pumps are pricey.
Best,
Bob Borger

Subject: | Re: TruTrak Gemini ADI |
I have an early (2012?) TruTrak Gemini ADI with a back up battery, an
external GPS and a pitot/static connnection.
I purchased Gemini because my conventional electro mechanical "steam"
horizon was next to nothing.
That was a wrong move because and I cannot recommed TruTrak Gemini ADI
at all.
Its impossible to keep your altitude with it.
That pitch system does not work.
When level flying and vertical speed is zero it claims Im climbing.
In manual they wrote
"The pitch display of the Gemini ADI is velocity vector.
This is not pitch attitude but rather the flight path of the aircraft."
and
"As long as the reference plane is on the horizon line, the aircraft is
maintaining altitude;
regardless of power setting or pitch attitude."
Thats difficult because its never on the line!
Impossible to adjust or calibrate.
Touch screen does not work properly.
I have tried to ask custom support from TruTrak but that is not easy.
Finally they answered that I have to pay 300 $ to get it fixed.
They promised to send me an authorization number for "update" but never
got it.
I have thought these problems are because Im one of the first Gemini
customer and very first in Europe.
After reading LAA report maybe its not so - they simply doesnt work
generally.
Shortly: looks nice but nothing else.
I have had Dynon D10 since 2007 and it has operated perfectly.
My wife has Dynon D1 pocket panel (portable EFIS) and its wonderful,
very handy and easy to use.
Operates surprisingly well without a pitot/static connection.
Maybe not a primary instrument for IFR but good back up anyway!
Im considering to throw Gemidi ADI away and replace it for new Garmin G5.
Im pretty sure its good - it must be...
I fly quite a lot during night and IMC. One time my D10 may fail and
then I need an operational backup system. Or vice versa.
I think iPad is an exellent platform for navigation software (SkyDemon
is my choise) but not for flight instruments.
