Lynn, I will get details. We use 3 different length courses to accomidate
any speed plane, race is sprint race. It lasts abbout 1/2 hour.

This is Howard for those of you who will remember me...I used to fly the purple
monster in Northern Minnesota. I am helping a friend get his -4 in the air...we
did a first flight last week....this plane had a landing incident and was converted
to nosewheel.....a few flights on it now and everything is going nice...
I'm having an ignition issue, I'm getting spark out of both A & B but, the module
that the duel ign. goes to, is only letting half of the spark through to the
plugs. Module A is blocking half and module B is blocking half. We have to have
both ignitions on or it will only run on 2 cylinders. These modules seem to
be solid epoxy and no way to open....Anything come up like this before? And
while on the subject? Where did Lance Wheeler go off to? Anybody hear from him?
I hope he's doing well...That NSI is a nice package..I have a lot of time behind
them....It's fun to be in a kitfox again after so many years..

I was just reminded that I should have requested a later model engine
to use as a mock-up...at least one with similar heads to mine so that
I wouldn't go and build something that might not fit my engine when I
      went to bolt it on...duh!

I want to see if I can make a different intake manifold system...one
that will more centrally mount the Rotec TBI that I have, and get
more even fuel/air distribution. I would have to tie my own plane up
for a week or so in order to make the necessary parts, and it would
be a whole lot simpler to do it if I had another dummy engine to
measure and test fit parts on. That's why it isn't necessary for it
to be a complete engine, just so it is complete enough to have block,
cylinders, heads, intake tubes, and oil pan. I could then have the
dummy engine on my work bench, and it'd make fitting the experimental
parts a whole lot easier. What I have in mind is an updraft manifold.
Once the building and the fitting of the parts is done, I would
      return the engine unharmed.

I'll be heading out for the Mid-Eastern Regional Fly-In at Urbana,
Ohio in a little while so I won't be able to see my email until
      Sunday late.

Good morning, everyone. Can any of you recommend any books, or
opinion, for epoxi'ing the joints for the ribs to front/rear spars
and what size of filets need to be worked in? Some of the pictures
I've seen look like the epoxy is left in whatever manner it was
applied. I want to make nice clean filets but don't know how large
to make them. 'Preciate it. John Reinking/Woodinville, WA

Welcome back, Howard. Good to hear from you.
First, Lance is gone. Sort of a "forced retirement" and the company has
reverted to its parent company, now called Maxwell Propulsion Service (MPS).
Assuming you have the stock NSI package with no modifications, it sounds
like you have the isolation modules miswired. Do you have the schematic for
it? If you don't, let me know and I'll see if I can find mine and get a
      copy off to you.

| Subject: | Re: Rib-to-Spar filets |

      Hi John,

I built in 1993 and am building again from a kit started in 1992. The guy
that built my present wings used the epoxy so that the fillets are between
1/4 and 3/8" inch radius. I am happy with that. In the old days when we
were using the 3M structural adhesive, we wet a finger and formed the
fillet. Keep in mind that the epoxy might be a bit thin with a tendency to
run, so use the cotton flox until it is stiff enough to ramain in place. On
one of my old applications, I didn't use enough flox so had to run out into
the garage every thirty minutes or so and clean up the sags. If finally set
OK and the fillets were smooth throughout.

Howard - I'm not sure it you're referring to a Rotax or an NSI on the ignition
issues.? If it's a 912/912S, I had a similar problem after I removed one of the
ignition pickups from the back side of the engine.? When I reinstalled it, I
had a washer in the wrong spot and it was enough to cause one side of the ignition
not to fire.? If the engine in question is a Rotax and you need more info
on this, let me know....I learned way more about?the 912?ignition system than
      I intended!

Subject: Kitfox-List: Hi everyone, I'm back with a -4 with NSI questions..

This is Howard for those of you who will remember me...I used to fly the purple

monster in Northern Minnesota. I am helping a friend get his -4 in the air...we

did a first flight last week....this plane had a landing incident and was
converted to nosewheel.....a few flights on it now and everything is going
      nice...
I'm having an ignition issue, I'm getting spark out of both A & B but, the
module that the duel ign. goes to, is only letting half of the spark through to

the plugs. Module A is blocking half and module B is blocking half. We have to

have both ignitions on or it will only run on 2 cylinders.

      Howard

It is a stock NSI ignition...A schematic would be great!

I stuck my wing bits together last winter.
It's probably the biggest epoxy job of your life so a little planning will guarantee
good results. Start in the morning, use bright work lights, do it alone
(unless your helper is an expert). The best book on the subject is the kitfox
wing manual. The only problems I had was running out of latex gloves and 2
oz. syringes. I cut back the bristles of a 1/2" epoxy brush and brushed a band
on the spars and slid the ribs over top. You will encounter areas where the
tip of the syringe doesn't reach so you'll have to push the epoxy into place
with whatever finger works best. I dipped my finger into a cup of slightly
soapy water to keep the epoxy from sticking. When your hands get mucked up...change
gloves! Other essentials for me were; a box of tongue depressors, paper
mixing cups, alcohol and paper towel to clean off excess epoxy and an organic
vapor mask. Hope this helps you.

Built my model II in '91 and was a little confused about this subject. By shear
chance, I happened to visit the Kitfox booth @ Oshkosh that year and they had
a half-built wing on display. The fillets on it were twice as wide as the few
      I'd done @ the time...probably a good inch across.

So, I went home and ordered some more of the 3M structural adhesive and cotton
flox and made them all that wide. They still look good today as if I'd just put
      them on yesterday.

      Howard,
I at one time had that same engine and had a failure with one of the
modules. I successfully rebuilt the module and replaced the solid epoxy. I
took some pictures of the operation to give to the individual who bought the
engine. I am replacing that engine with a Jabiru 3300. I came across the
pictures a few weeks ago while purging my files. If you like I will try to
find them again and attach them to an email to you. I am on the road
currently traveling through North Carolina with my wife and another couple
but have had internet connections at night. Rebuilding was much easier than
      I expected.
