Subject: | Looking for a 4-stroke |
Does anyone have (or know of) a good 4-stroke engine for sale that I could install
on my Kitfox IV. Ive been looking for a used HKS for a while, but my 582
was recently removed to replace a $40 trigger and is now estimated at $3400 for
repair. So, my 4-stroke search has become a little more important. There was
a Jabiru 2200 on barnstormers that I put an offer on about 5 minutes too late.
Id prefer to have something light-weight like a HKS or Jabiru 2200.

Hi Ryan,
Just wondering how they got you to $3400, since a complete rebuild is
about $2500 and a nice used motor can be had for $2-3k. (I just sold
mine for $1900.)

Subject: | Re: Looking for a 4-stroke |
I already had $400 into the engine to finally diagnose the problem as the trigger.
When we had the engine apart for that fix we noticed that the rear crank
seal was leaking. Since my intent was to find a 4-stroke and sell the 582, I
decided to pay for the 150 hr seal/gasket replacement (+$920). When the engine
was torn down we found that the rotary valve shaft was almost split in two (+$320),
and the crank was so bad that the PTO bearing fell off and a new bearing
wouldn't stay on (+$1500). At that point you might as well just add the pistons
(+$200) and get the sign off for a full overhaul.
Interestingly, the engine had no corrosion, which was supposed to be the big scare
against using AMSOIL.
So, I can spend money on this 582, buy another 582 off of barnstormers, or just
use the money toward an engine that I actually want to fly behind.

Suggest you get a copy of the Bing manual from Bing Agency International, 1
-800-309-2464.
There is a chart included that discusses/recommends jetting for high densit

There is also and excellent description of the operation along with a descr

Either
the

for a few minutes a crack, long, was found in one of the carb mounting

Fortunately I had another on hand so the swap was fairly quick. It took
longer
to then synchronize the carbs following reassembly. It's tough to keep trac

Sync them at 3500 and then run it up to 4000 and take a look. It doesn't
sound
like a fuel delivery issue from the system and it isn't electrical in
nature.
Something more central to the carb area. Let me know what the sync turns
up.

Hi John,
Glad it seems to have worked out. Air leaks can give your system grief and
trying
to find some of them can be a pain too. You were lucky to find the carb
socket
leak as they can be hard to find at times. This is one reason they are
included
on the Rotax 5 year rubber replacement program. Let me know if all is well
after several flights.
Have fun.

=C2-=C2-Either email address syntax is alright, just be sure that you c

*** Enclosure Support on the Lists ***

=C2-=C2- Limited posting of enclosures such as pictures, documents, and

=C2-=C2- is supported on the Lists. =C2-There are a number of restric

=C2-=C2- are detailed below. =C2-Please abide by the rules put forth
regarding the
=C2-=C2- content of enclosures.
=C2-=C2- These are some of the features and limits of enclosures on the
Matronics
=C2-=C2- Lists:
=C2-=C2- 1) Enclosures will only be posted to the Real Time version of
the Lists.
=C2-=C2- 2) Enclosures will NOT be included in the Daily Digest version

=C2-=C2- 3) Enclosures WILL BE forwarded on to the BBS Forum Web site.
=C2-=C2- 4) Enclosures will NOT be appended to the Archives.
=C2-=C2- 5) Enclosures will NOT be available in the List Browse feature

=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-All other enclosures types will be rejected and e

large security risk.
=C2-=C2- 7) !! All incoming enclosures will be scanned for viruses prio

posting
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-to the List. =C2-This is done in real time and
will not slow down
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-the process of posting the message !!
=C2-=C2- Here are some rules for posting enclosures. =C2-Failure to a

rules
=C2-=C2- could result in the removal of a subscriber's email address fr

Lists.
=C2-=C2- 1) Pay attention to what you are posting!! =C2-Make sure tha
t the files
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-you are enclosing aren't HUGE (greater that 1MB).
=C2-Remember that there
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-are still people checking they're email via dial
up modem. =C2-If you
post
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-30MB worth of pictures, you are placing an unnece
ssary burden on these
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-folks and the rest of us, for that matter.
=C2-=C2- 2) SCALE YOUR PICTURES DOWN!!! =C2-I don't want to see huge
3000 x 2000
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-pictures getting posted that are 3 or 4MB each.
=C2-This is just
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-unacceptable. =C2-Use a program such as Photosh
op to scale the picture
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-down to something on the order of 800 x 600 and t
ry to keep the
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-file size to less-than 200KB, preferably much les
s.
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-Microsoft has a really awesome utility available
for free that allows
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-you to Right-Click on a picture in Explorer and a
utomatically
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-scale it down and resave it. =C2-This is a grea
t utility - get it, use
it!
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powe
rtoys/xppowertoys.mspx
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-Look for the link "Image Resizer"
=C2-=C2- 3) !! This would seem to go without saying, but I'll say it an
yway. =C2-Do
not
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-post anything that would be considered offensive
by your grandmother.
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-And you know what I'm saying; I don't want to see
anything even
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-questionable. !!
=C2-=C2- 4) REMEMBER THIS: If you post a 1MB enclosure to a List with 1
000 members
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-subscribed, your 1MB enclosure must be resent 100
0 times amounting
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-to 1MB X 1000 = 1 Gigabyte of network traffic!!
=C2-BE CAREFUL and
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2-BE COURTEOUS!
=C2-=C2- Also see the section below on the Matronics Photo and File Sha

*** Matronics Email List Wiki ***
*********************************
In an attempt to make it easy to store and find structured and often
accessed
information, Matronics has installed a Wiki at:
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- http://wiki.m
atronics.com
The Wiki allows individuals to create web pages to contain useful
information
for other users of the mailing lists and web site. Unlike an ordinary web
page
where the content needs to be submitted to Matronics for inclusion, the Wik
i
permits the users to construct their own pages and have them visible
immediately.
While constructing pages for the Wiki is not difficult, some may not be
comfortable building pages. =C2-In that case, simply prepare the text and
any
images and email it to:
=C2-=C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2- =C2-wiki-support@m
atronics.com
One of the volunteers on that list will take your submission and construct
a Wiki page for you.
Often someone produces a particularly useful posting in email one one of th
e
Lists that would be of general interest. In that case Matronics may take
that
post and convert it into a Wiki page.
