Here's something that I found interesting the other day. The Liberty XL wh ich is a normal category certified trainer. I got an email the other day t hat they were about 7-8 years in production and just sold the 100th airplan e. Arion has been about a year and a half in production and just delivered around the 56th I think. Sure, one is not a kitplane, but still, I am imp ressed with the numbers in such a short time. Also lots of good modificati on and progress from the original airframe. It also seems like they are in large part making it backwards compatible so that owners of previous year models can make the jump to the latest and greatest improvements. Just tho ught I'd add that in. Brian W. I think that in itself may be some sort of record - to have that high of kit completion rate in such a short time. I don't know how we could check that out, but I can think of no other kit aircraft that can come close. The Lightning is definitely a winner - and a patriot, not a pinhead. All, I am beginning to get frustrated with this switch of web hosting companies. We decided to change to the new one because we plan on upgrading the flylightning.net site and the web designer I will be working with (the one currently helping me with the Jabiru USA site) has his own web hosting business. Our old provider is proving difficult to work with to allow us to get the job done. Net result is that it will take another day to get it all together. Please be patient. Pete Krotje

Wow, I am impressed to see that Arion has such a good reputation and is so highly regarded by you guys. My only experience with Arion was talking with the guys at Sun-N-Fun and Osh Kosh for a while, sitting in the plane, and dreaming. That said, I was completely unaware of their business plan, practices, and reputation. I'm in the dreaming stage of plane building and lurk around aviation sites to keep informed so when the time comes, I know which plane to go with. Your obvious satisfaction and proud association with Arion speaks very highly of their standards, product, and support. I hope to be able to visit and experience those things for myself soon. Way more than I wanted to know? No Way! When I was very young, my brother used to hold me spellbound with stories o f his F-86 flying in Korea. Coming from a military family; I LOVE that stuff , so tell away. I deeply appreciate what you did over there and am always happy to hear about the "goings on" during that time. Buz, I enjoy the banter and history. I used to have a friend who flew F-4s as well and have lost contact with him. His Name is Howie Meisner Last contact with him, he was promoted to Bird. Keep dreaming and working towards your goal. I did the same thing myself and eventually got myself in a position where I could afford to get started. The Arion bunch, and especially the group on here have been valuable in support, both emotionally and technically. Good luck! Josh, The rest of us have spent our time dreaming, sitting in airplanes and talking to the pros also, so you are on the right track. In the world of experimental aviation, there are a substantial number of wannabe companies. A significant number of them are staffed by "gipsy's, tramps and thieves". I cant name names in an email, but trust me, there are some outrageous stories out there, most of them true. I made my decisions by flying the pre-prototype, spending time with the key people, working shoulder to shoulder with them building planes. In my opinion, it is the quality of the Arion people along with the quality of the Lightning customers that builds the strongest case. Building an airplane, even with builder assist is not an easy project. Lots of tough decisions and mental battles. Much easier to do a build with quality caring factory support....even when the support is "tough love"!! An old sales rep told me, "I dont partner with people I would not want to have dinner with"! I wouldnt want to buy a plane from people I would not want to build with. Doug **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. Hi Scott, I don't believe I have had the privilege of meeting Howie Meisner. But since he flew out of El Toro and since his rank was Lt Col, and then Colonel, I would guess that he was a Marine instead of Navy or Air Force. You know the old saying, "To err is human, to forgive is divine, but neither is Marine Corp policy." Having said that, below is one of my favorite Marine jokes. Blue Skies, Buz Rich An Army Ranger was on vacation in the depths of Louisiana and he wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking. After becoming very frustrated with the "no haggle" attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the Ranger shouted, "maybe I'll just go out and get my own alligator so I can get a pair of shoes made at a reasonable price!" The vendor said, "By all means, be my guest. Maybe you will run into a couple of Marines who were in here earlier saying the same thing." So the Ranger headed into the bayou that same day and a few hours later came upon two men standing waist deep in the water. He thought, "those must be the two Marines the guy in town was talking about." Just then, the Ranger saw a tremendously long alligator swimming rapidly underwater towards one of the Marines. Just as the alligator was about to attack, the Marine grabbed its neck with both hands and strangled it to death with very little effort. Then both Marines dragged it on shore and flipped it on its back. Laying nearby were several more dead alligators. One of the Marines then exclaimed, "Damn, this one doesn't have any shoes either!" ____________________________________ **************It's Tax Time! Allan, In the past (before I came to work for Arion) I stayed at the Best Western in Baseball City http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.do?iata=00158210 . The rate was reasonable (senior and military discounts) and the rooms were clean. The hotel is right on I-4 and about a 35 minute drive into Sun n Fun. In 2006 a friend of mine rented a house using Vacation Rentals by Owner http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/florida/central-disney-orlando. We stayed in a great house with pool and Jacuzzi for about $950.00 for the week. The house slept 8 or 9 people. If you stayed more than 3 nights it beat the hotel price. Again it was a 35 minute drive but well worth it. There are other options but these are two that I have personally used since 2001. Hope this helps.
