hi terry here when i first started flying ,only about four years ago i learned
on a
husky norseman ultralight a very predictable taildragger with a subaru in it .i
also
took my private pilot license in cessna 150,s and 172,s when i bought my plane
it did
take me awhile to transition . to it as it is much more sensitive in taildragger
form.
it takes your undivided attention. i am speaking of takeoffs and landing ,as in
the air
it handles the same as the tricycle gear plane. my plane is an earlier version
and sits
lower than yours will . when i take off , before i get the tail upi am able to
see the
runway just above the left corner of the dash . i think if you change yours to
tailwheel
because your nose will be higher you will have a little less visibility , this
however
shouldn,t be a problem and you will get used to it . when i land on snow, grass,
or
gravel i don,t have much problem. when you land on pavement however you really
have to
be on the ball. my warp drive prop is pitched to 13 degrees , at 4200rpm solo
170 lbs.
and full tanks i get a cruise of about 90 to 95 mph. when i throttle up to 4600
i get
approx.100mph. my climb rates when loaded the same way would run around 900 fpm
and
when fully loaded to gross weight maybe 500fpm. it never really impressed me compared
to what others are getting. these are only approx. figures because i haven,t really
checked it for awhile.i am going flying shortly (just waiting for the heaters to
warm
the plane up) the temperature is about 0 degrees farenheit my altitude here is
1830
ft. i will check my climb and cruise figures .talk to you again terry . one
more
thing i am getting a lot of drag from the drive system out the front of the hood
,the
huge hole for the drive in the front of the hood and my rad hanging underneath.
i am
holding off doing any changes to the cowl or rad as i will will be changing to
a
diffrent engine and drive and will have to rework it all anyway. i would probably
get 10 more mph i streamlined the cowl and changed the rad slightly? well its
perfectly
clear and sunny out and just snowed 2 inches so it should be very smooth up there
.

Rolando - great progress! Your Pelican looks very close to flying. What is
the right air intake going to? It looks like engine block cooling? Is that
recommended from the factory? Good idea, I know the turbo gets a lot
hotter. Very nice work - you have a good factory representation. Goo

Hey Gary.
Yes, the right cooling intake on the front of the cowling is directed to engine
block and cylinders and it is part of the new Pelican kit, I guess it comes with
the Rotax 914 turbo engine kit from Pelican but we have to ask Lorraine about
it, by the way sorry that I did not include picture explanations in english
! I guess I will have to do that in the near future.
We are trying to finish the plane in March so we can fly it from spring time, where
are you located at ?

I'm working on a planetary dirve, have the drive working on the mounting
couplers and flywheel. This drive is good to 300hp so we will be installing it
mainly on our new supercharged version ea81 comming out this year.
I talked to John on friday and he's waiting on a prop adapter from
Autoflight, should be a good ride!
