Lynn,
The simplest way is to build an extended engine mount. This is what William
Wynne did with his now-defunct Piet that was the test bed for all his
Corvair conversion development work. He extended the mount 6" beyond what
was called for if he'd had a long fuselage. It looked fine & gave him some
extra space between the firewall & engine for accesories & clearances.

using the larger size, what is the wall thickness of the larger struts?
I listen to a am. radio talk show on WLS each morning . (if the skip is
in the atmosphere) The general thought this morning is that Mayor Daley
is mentally ill. Leon S. Wondering if other mayors are thinking " if
Daley can do it, why can't I.

I am using the small for the cabanes, large for the front lift struts and

All in all, they cost me about $250 and that includes jury strut material.

Dear Listers,
The time has finally arrived for the Internet Service Provider (ISP)
upgrade! You'll recall that I was looking into upgrading the existing SDSL
connection from 768k to 1.1M. As it turned out, the copper line wouldn't
support any speeds greater than the current 768k. In light of that news, I
just bit-the-bullet and ordered a full, commercial-grade T1
connection. The T1 connection will provide a full-duplex, high priority,
1.5Mb Internet connection which should be a substantial performance
enhancement for all of the List services!
Pacbell delivered the T1 Loop last week and it tested out fine. This past
weekend I pulled the tail circuit from the demark to the office. This
afternoon, Tuesday 4/1/03, the ISP is suppose come and install the new
router and bring up routing on a test subnet. Assuming that everything
checks out okay with the T1, new router, and routing, I will have them
swing the main Matronics subnet off the SDSL and onto the T1. In theory,
the swing could be nearly transparent to users, but that's usually not the
case... ;-)
Please expect a bit of instability in connectivity this afternoon as we
work though the transition issues. I will post a follow up message when
everything is up and running on the new T1 line.

Anyone who watched the video series from the 2001 "Corvair College" series
where many rides were given in William Wynne's Piet, probably watched the
various contortions needed to get into the front cockpit of the plane.
Also, getting into the rear cockpit takes a bit of work unless there is a
"flop" or a semicircular cutout of the aft edge of the center section
(proven to be a detriment to the performance of the airplane, BTW). So
lengthening the cabanes a bit to increase the available working space is a
help. Various suggestions have been made, most being to lengthen the
cabanes 4", but I don't know that I've ever seen any actual flying reports
from anyone who has lengthened them 6" or 8" other than that they obviously
haven't been killed in the crash of the plane due to extending the struts
this much. It's got to affect the handling having the geometry altered by a
significant distance though.

Model A, and this difference could be balanced by installing the Corvair a
couple(few?) inches forward. Don Pietenpol has plans for the motor mounts.
The Fuselage was extended 9" for the Corvair for more room, etc. I believe
that either version fuselage could be used.
