Here is another link to a video showing the extent of devistation in and around the Christchurch CBD http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12534289 Hi Bob, Centered about 20 km SE of Christchurch. It occurred close to 1pm so lots of people around and in buildings. Death toll 65 and rising. The energy from a shallow focus quake goes up as inverse square. When one with 2.5 mi depth hits at 6.3, it can be devastating. Most here in Calif, w e usually have strike/slip quakes as opposed to thrust quakes which release more energy. And ours usually are 10-20 mi deep so effects on surface are lower. We are anticipating a Big One on the San Andreas fault about 10 mi from my home. I just hope it stays away until I go to the airport in the sky. I feel for the folks in Christchurch. Same here. A beautiful country & people. Had a great trip there 5 years ago and got to visit/fly with both Cliff and Brian and spend several weeks on both islands. Our thoughts go out to all the families there. Incredible to see the images & video. Would the product STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment help avoid possible engine trouble? Someone gave me a bottle of Marine formula.
