Thanks a lot for the input. My wife has - almost voluntary - donated a couple of her small mirrors that I hope will fit under the waterpump. I will then do the test Rotax describes: Run for 5 minutes and check if droplets can be seen from the drainopening within the first minute after shutdown. Before that I will check and double check all coolant hoses before ordering any spareparts. I will keep you posted on my findings Dave good to hear the lenses have worked out well ;-) Best regqrds Lasse 2011/6/6 Brian Anderson <briana@xtra.co.nz> > Lasse, > > More recently I have had a few drops too, intermittently. The air through the engine compartment can create the appearance of a hose leak where there is none and the actual source of the leak is elsewhere.- You can also use an air compressor to apply low-pressure (10-15 lbs) to the coolant system-via removed radiator cap.- I use an adapter I made f rom automotive tubeless tire valve stem with a shock rubber bushing (donut) -slipped over the valve stem.- By grasping the rubber donut one can for ce the base of the valve stem into the opening of coolant spider and apply air pressure to the coolant system for approximately 20-30 seconds.- Then while the engine is cold or hot-one can do a thorough check for leaks. -- I usually place a rag over the hand that is used to-maintain press ure on the valve stem so as to absorb any blow-back from the release of air pressure upon completion of test.- The procedure is a quick static test of the coolant system-that can be performed-any time there is question concerning coolant system leak integrity.- Dave-Weaver- --- On Tue, 6/7/11, Lasse Lykke Espersen <lykkeespersen@gmail.com> wrote: From: Lasse Lykke Espersen <lykkeespersen@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Pulsar-List: Water pump Thanks a lot for the input. One thing I found that probably contributed to the problem was that the sealing washer in th e pressure cap of the coolant distribution bottle on top of the engine had perished and there were signs of some coolant loss there. Also, not enough to even top up the overflow bottle. I've inspected under the engine after shutting down and could find no signs of leakage on the inside of the lower cowling, so I still don't know where it is coming from. There is also the possibility of a few drips from any o f the lower coolant hoses, or their fittings into the heads. Does anyone on this forum have an idea of how m uch water leakage that is acceptable? e.g if I can postpone the fix for ano ther couple of houndred of hours? Have anyone of you had the same problem and replaced parts of the pump....i f so is it possible to do it without removing the engine from the plane (Or iginal AeroDesigns Pulsar) - Thank you in advance for any suggestions Lasse Pulsar serial 474 OY-LLE href="http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Pulsar-List">http://www.matronic s.com/Navigator?Pulsar-List href="http://forums.matronics.com/">http://forums.matronics.com href="http://www.matronics.com/contribution">http://www.matronics.com/con tribution arget="_blank">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Pulsar-List ttp://forums.matronics.com _blank">http://www.matronics.com/contribution

You might try Norther tool. I have seen in their go-cart parts area band b rakes that look like ours=2C only I have not measured the exact diameter to be sure they match what those of us that have early kits have. Hi Mark, All you need to do is to take your worn bands to you brake bonding shop and they will bond new linings on to them for you. Damn side cheaper than buying new bands. Mark, if you can source a supplier that sells the band brakes with a slightly larger diameter than those sold at Aircraft Spruce, it would be good. The original Aero Designs band brakes were slightly larger and the tabs were slightly longer than found available today. The result is a less than ideal fit. I've looked many places but never found an ideal source for the band brakes (even though I still like using band brakes for the 582). Best, Mike McCann Pulsar 1 - 582. Mike, I have a pair of original bands in very good condition, the friction material is worn out so will need rebonding with new linings.
