Rick- I will get the mufflers bead blasted and the pinholes spot welded.
Then, is coating something different than hi temp paint? Does coating
provide any benefit over painting? Is coating available at local
muffler shops or must I send mufflers to Jet Hot? If I ask muffler shop
to paint it, any particular paint to specify, or just highest temp they
have? Thanks,
John

John,
I'd recommend spot welding the pinholes, If you want to get the system
re-coated they will prep it, (bead blast, etc). I would also go with the
highest temp coating available which should take care of the hot spots.
I am currently flying with mild steel mufflers with no coating.
I no longer have any mufflers or exhaust systems available.
Are you going to LWC this year? I don't have any available vacation
left but hope to skip out by Friday noon or early Saturday morning so
that I can visit with everyone.

that work?
I pulled the exhaust to repair them while plane is down. Some
general rust where Jet Hot coating flaked off and where new thicker tabs
were welded on years ago.
Two pinholes near welds are repaired with Cargo ThermoSteel, holding
for now but will eventually come loose. I'd like to have muffler bead
blasted, pinholes
repaired and repainted. There are no cracks, just holes. What do you
recommend? Weld over pinholes? Reweld joints and try to keep same
alignment? What has been
learned from field experience with this exhaust system? I don't
follow the listvery well so may have missed new info during the past 6
years.
I sent Rick an email asking for a update on his exhausting
experience, but that addressed bounced. Rick- you out there? Probably in
Lawrence...
What has worked best to seal the exhaust joints- fiber/vermiculite
strips from McMaster-Carr? I used stainless tape last time, held OK.
Should I paint them with high temp alum finish or send them to Jet
Hot to replace the original coating? Should I buy new mufflers? the
pipes are all fine.

Greg,
Cancel the plane trip, we will be in the motorhome.
Leaving for Ohio on Monday, had a family wedding pop up on the schedule.
Will get the check in the mail in a day or 2.
Assume you will have a projector and screen - I have both but will not
carry if you have them.
God Bless
