Subject: | nose wheel and fork FELL OFF |
Has anyone found an off the shelf source for the 2 parts (collar and the
bolt that is threaded on both ends) needed for the "Pulsar Nose Gear
Mod"??
Once I have the parts I can find a good welder here or send the nose
gear strut and parts to someone who has done this mod before. Is
someone willing to do it??
Alternatively, does someone have an improved SkyStar or newer nose gear
strut for sale?

Hi John
The two parts were machined. If you follow this route, then best to have
at least one extra part number PC02-04 made. This just in case you have
a problem (as mentioned by Cy in another thread). However, the UK
Pulsar operator that has this improvement, has not advised of any
failure.

Alan and all- the "Pulsar Nose Gear Mod" drawing that you sent me below
shows 2 part numbers, P.C.01-04 is the collar and P.C.02-04 is the bolt
that is threaded on both ends. Where can I buy these 2 parts?

John
We have had a few in the the UK (and a known one in France) having the
same breakage. All up inside the strut collar. Attached diagrams are
what we do/recommend.

Subject: [Pulsar-Aviators] nose wheel and fork FELL OFF
Pulsar XP nose wheel and fork FELL COMPLETELY OFF while pulling plane
out of hangar. Yes reallytoday.
Very lucky was not taking off or landing when this happened. It just
nosed over while I was pulling Pulsar out of hangar. The vertical pivot
bolt that holds on the nose wheel fork broke raggedly up inside the nose
strut collar. That nose fork assembly with the bolt welded into it came
from Aero-Design in my December 1994 kit. My Pulsar has been flying
over 12 years and never had any nose landings and always landed on
pavement.
Looking at old paper files I found an email from John Hudson saying that
the weak point of the Aero-Design nose fork assembly may be under that
collar. The collar is the wider area that the Belleville washer rubs
against. And that the heat treating may not have fully penetrated on
every nose fork weld. Do you think I can just get that pivot bolt
welded back inside the nose fork collar? Nothing else broke (as if that
is not enuf). What would you do??
