Subject: | Damaged main gear |
OK guys, seems no one has a glass gear for sale so I have decided to make a
good mold. Does anyone have a cracked gear I can use as a plug for the
mold? If not, does anyone have a gear I can borrow long enough to make the
mold?
Once I have the mold, I will be able to make gears for anyone that needs
one.
Thanks
Greg Smith

Just out of curiosity what happened to the gear? Something maybe we should
look for on our inspections? What is the glass makeup you would use on the
new gear. Thanks in advance for any input. Cheers, Larry N852LW

In the case I am working on, it appears the gear was damaged upon a high
speed touch down with the brakes on, causing vertical cracks radiating from
the axle plate. This may be repaired with 45 degree wraps of carbon fiber
but I want a way to replace glass gears in the future. I am a firm believer
in the glass gear for the Pulsar. I plan to talk about this at the Pulsar
reunion.

Greg,
You mentioned your cracked gear could be repaired - couldn't
you epoxy and clamp it together, then clean it up for mould purposes ?
