I used about 12 gallons of MEK to remove what was left of the original seal
er that was literally washed out from the use of 87 octane fuel with ethano
l.- I contacted various sources-for obtaining straight ethanol to work
with and found none willing to sell small quantity of pure ethanol.- I us
ed scotch brite pads wired to a pole to scrub the inside of tank (pouring M
EK into horizontal wing tank) while working outside wearing respirator and
protective gear to protect eyes and skin from the extremely toxic MEK.- I
t is a bit of a daunting task to keep the MEK out of contact with the finis
h paint on the wing....I managed to do so.- I worked as quickly as possib
le by pouring in approximately a quart of MEK, scrubbing and then dumping u
ntil I got the job done.- The MEK is very harsh on the interior room temp
erature cured glass tank coating...so speed is of completing job is very im
portant.- Jeffco is much easier to apply and was less expensive compared
to PR1750 (it has very good wicking properties on a clean surface.- It d
oes require two coats as gas release during curing causes pin hole formatio
n.- Last I checked, Lance Air was found to have a long history of using J
effco and that was good enough for me.- As I mentioned earlier, one has a
ppreciate the limitations of the product.- That is why there are some app
lications where I would consider using a polysulfide in addition to Jeffco
(coating over Jeffco) to bridge transition areas from composite structure t
o aluminum.=0ADave Weaver N912GR=0A =0A=0A________________________________

A few years back I tested a small piece of aluminum plate coated with Jeffc
o by sealing it up in a canning jar submerged in gasoline with ethanol for
a few months.- Looking at it later under a magnifying glass there was no
visable degradation of the coating.- What I have read about its industria
l application for being resistant to acids would suggest that it is very ne
ar if not chemically inert.- It was nearly four years ago when I first us
ed it in my wing tanks as the primary sealer.- It spreads on application
like an epoxy floor sealer...very easy to brush out.=0ADave Weaver=0A =0A

=0A=0A=0AHi Bernard,=0AThe manufacturer has not tested the material to see
how well it works=0Awith ethanol, so they do not recommend using it for par
ts that are in=0Aconstant contact with fuel or any material with ethanol in
it. We do=0Aoffer a Jeffco epoxy tank sealer that seems to work well, p/n
=0A09-42226. It is not a laminating epoxy, just a sealer, so the part is=0A
made with a laminating epoxy, then the sealer is brushed on to protect=0Ath
e part from the fuel and additives. I hope this helps.=0ARegards,=0AJosh So
