Subject: | Cabin heat options ? |
Hi
Just curious what options have worked for installing cabin heat in
Pulsars. My passengers seem to be getting cold even on mild winter=92s
days.
I did a search on the forum and noticed Barry (G-XPXP) has a small
radiator with a fan but hoping there may be a conventional kit that
fits/works to give lots of heat.
Cheers

What is your power budget look like. Rotax without a separate alternator
only puts out about 12 or 15 amps! Usually this is used by other
components.
I have the heater kit in my XP, but it never worked well until I got the
oil temperature up around 200 degrees F, and thus the water temp up around
180. I have flown at 7 degrees outside air temp and have been comfortable,
on a sunny day.

The Pulsar 582 that I just bought has a collector on part of the back of the right
radiator and a duct to carry the hot air to the cockpit. The builder said
it worked good in Houston area cold weather.

My hangar partners young daughter broke off my pitot tube flush with the
leading edge of the wing. Any suggestions on the easiest way to fix this?
I know I could cut an inspection hole on the underneath side of the wing and
get at it that way (more work than I really want to do right now). Has
anyone successfully re-attached a tube by cutting around the remaining tube
in the wing with a dremel and then coupling that to the extension? Much
like those of you that have the short stub extending out of the wing and
then a rubber tube connecting to the extension. Only in this case the
rubber tube would actually extend into the leading edge of the wing.

This was very common. The builder was to shim the axle
until the wheels were straight. I used large washers.

The wheels are shimmed straight. The gear leg between the wheel mount and the
fuselage is not aligned with the direction of flight. They are twisted so that
the front of the gear leg is toed out.
I had the same problem on my Cardinal so I made new gear leg and intersection fairings
along with new wheel pants and gained 7 mph. I plan on doing the same
on this Pulsar to see how it does.

Take note that there are aircraft in the GA ranks that have the pitot

if there is any difference.

Tim,
The diameter is not critical. Epoxy a smaller diameter tube inside the
piece that is left in the wing. Trim it to about 1=94 outboard of the
wing, then fit another rubber coupling and extend the pitot to the
desired length.

Good idea! I would also carry a GPS on that flight! Ground speed from a GP

The kit supplied gear leg looks worse than it really is, in terms of the alignment.
Cant do much about it though when it is factory fabricated. Some of us have
added balsa fairings to the gear legs to create a more pleasing shape, and
allowing a rounded nose and tapered trailing edge. It is also possible to fit
the brake cables down inside the rear fairing. This ought to have the effect of
reducing the drag, even although the aerodynamic cord will still be slightly
misaligned with the direction of flight.
I would be very surprised if building a new gear leg will gain you much in speed,
although every little bit of drag reduction will help.
