Subject: | Re: FUEL TANK SEALANTS. |
Matt,
I am Netherlands based and my Pulsar 1 has the FWfuselage tank. It took me a while
to check every fuel suppliers client service, but thus I found, that Shell
V-Power is the only fuel that is guarantied ethanol free. So far no damage or
weakening of the liner in the tank. Mine has a grey coating, but I cannot tell
you much about it, since I bought it like this.
Regards, Bart

Use Rhino 9700 as tank coating to protect glass from ethanol/fuel and use
polysulphide to seal alum end plate to glass at wing root.

Subject: | Re: Pulsar-List Digest: 1 Msgs - 06/24/14 |
Sent a long email out on this some time ago but here is a summary of what I
have found.
Rhino 9700 is NOT a fuel tank sealant It is a high quality cement paint
that Rhino has not tested for resistance to ethanol. ..... nor has
Aircraft Spruce. Rhino bought the company that made it at the time I
built my plane,,, kept the same # - - - - 9700. Rhino does not mention,
for good reason , any fuel tank sealing applications nor aircraft in any
way.
BUT it is the best we have available. However it almost all was dissolved
from the inside of my fuel cells after 12 yrs.
I used it when I resealed my tanks. I keep a sample panel painted with it
in a jar of mogas. Shake it up every time I fly. When it costing on the
sample starts to disappear I'll recoat my cells.
I got mine from Lancair wwhich sells it in one gallon lots.
There is some belief that a baked prepeged panel is resistant to ethanol.
If so, in the XP wing, the only thing you have worry about is the far end
of the cell.
