Hello ADS-B'ers!
I would like to join in. I have put together the Stratux kit, downloaded
the Stratux image, copied onto SD card with Win32imager. I have Raspberry
Pi 2, NooElec nano-1, Edimax nano WiFi and I can see the Stratux web
interface at 192.168.10.1 on Nexus7, shows I am connected, but traffic and
weather does not show up. I am in UK, antenna in the window. The NooElec
nano runs pretty hot, so I took the cover off and stuck a heatsink on the
receiver chip. I can see a lot of traffic on flightradar24, but shame,
nothing on mine doodaah.
On the other hand, the use of the SDR directly connected to OTG dongle
looks dead simple, I am waiting for the OTG to arrive. If that works, it
may need a hub with more USB connections to enable power in connection.
great project

Otto,
I thought similar if I should need to power even both devices, the tablet a
nd the SDR, buy using a USB hub that has a power input.=C2- I ran the tab
let and the SDR for at least an hour and my Samsung Tab 3 8"=C2- tablet s
till had 70% power.=C2- Now the Andriod operating system and my tablet do
not seem consistent as to how long the battery lasts.=C2- It seems like
despite killing non-essential apps, allot apps just automatically restart w
hich causes more processing and power drain.
I know I will drain the battery faster in flight, because every time I have
used Avare in flight, the first thing I do is turn the screen brightness u
p to full.=C2- I am anxious to try my SDR and tablet with Avare ADSB soon
and find out how well it works and also what kind of life I can expect fro
m the tablet battery.

Ronko,
I know in the plane the juice just disapears faster than on the ground. We
can have USB charger on 12V circuit and also it is easy to make 5V USB
backup battery with one LI-Ion 18650battery.
I may be paranoic, but my Nexus7 had been loosing power quickly and when I
got into a bit of weather problem I was lucky I got my PocketFMS on my
mobile phone, and that got me home. I was in an open cockpit plane and to
use paper map is near impossible. The problem with Avare, it is US nad
Canada based, little coverage of Europe, but no airspace. Good just for
seeing the traffic.
Keep me posted with your development.
