    I'm in Santorini, Greece so comment is limited. Elongation of bolt material is primary indicator of energy absorbtion capability. Grade 8 has around 12% which is plenty for gear application and won't fracture without obvious deformation. Stiffness as mentioned by Tim is NOT related to strength. It is function of modulus which is same for the steel alloy regardless of heat treat/strength. The calculated stress level that myself and Terry Armstrong computed is at the limit of the grade 5 yield strength so it will deform at any substantial loading. If you install a higher strength bolt than Grade 8, good chance to transfer failure to another part of assy like fork. My technical recommendation is that the Grade 8 bolt works well and provides sufficient margin to show any overload deformation. I just disassembled mine before I left to check my Grade 8 bolt and all was well even after bumpy dry lake landings over 3 yrs.
