I emailed a picture of the rudder lock which has the advantage of putting no stress on any control linkages. For aileron and elevator I use the nylon GIZMO locks sold at OSH last year. The only drawback there is that the nylon RBF strip gets brittle in the sun; one strip broke but still useable. _____ From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Rene Felker Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2009 8:29 AM Subject: RE: RV10-List: Re: Rudder/aileron Gust Lock Jesse, thanks for the heads up. One of the best solutions I have seen so far, IMHO, is a welded tube on the front of each side of the Bogi Bar that will slide into a hole on each of the pedals. With the arm extended and up against the back of the seat, the seat belt can be used to hold it in place. Then you can use the other seatbelt to hold the stick back (with the first stick inside the middle triangle of the towbar) which will lock the elevator and ailerons. The towbar is good to have with you when traveling anyway, so the added weight is very small. If on a little bit of a slope, it can push against the top of the pedals as a parking break. If wind is expected, it can be on the bottom of the pedals as a more secure gust lock. do not archive Jesse Saint Saint Aviation, Inc. jesse@saintaviation.com Cell: 352-427-0285 Fax: 815-377-3694 On Jun 7, 2009, at 11:56 AM, Tim Olson wrote: > > That one is spring loaded as well. I doubt seriously that one should use this as a substitute for chocks or a real parking brake in the aircraft. Leaving a $100k + aircraft on an incline with a tow bar pushed against the toe brakes seems a little chancy to me. -----Original Message----- From: owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-rv10-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of David Maib Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2009 6:39 PM Subject: Re: RV10-List: Re: Rudder/aileron Gust Lock Any photo's? Subject: Computer fan under glare shield
After the AZ sun heats up my glare shield, my Dynon EFIS sometimes indicates it's overheated. I bought a thin computer fan to install figuring it would be both a defrost fan as well as remove heat from under the shield. It's 12 V and has 3 wires attached: red, black, and yellow. Are any of you computer knowledgeable enough to tell me which wire does what. I want to hook it up to an on-off switch to 12 V. Albert Gardner N991RV Yuma, AZ

And here is another way to make a gust lock. I attach it after the stick is tied back with the seat belts. Albert Gardner Yuma, AZ

Albert, As a data point I purchased an 2 ultra high velocity computer fans to act as you describes, heat removal & defrost. They had something like 3 times the airflow as normal computer fans and are a bit louder. After installing them I am surprised how much less air flow is blown through then than I expected. I can only imagine if I had used a standard fan the disappointment I would feel. I have yet to need the fans for defrost but I am glad I upgraded. www.NewEgg.com rates them by CFM & dBA Average Case Fan ~ 20-40 CFM $5.00 High Volume Fans ~70-90 CFM $8.00 Ultra High Volume <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835705057> ~100-120 CFM $10-20.00 WOW <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213008> 175 CFM $35.00 Ridicules <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835706019> 217 CFM $42.00 (note 120 MM may be too big) Don't be surprised if you own 35 CFM fan. I did the same on my glareshield. I originally installed the fan as only a defrost fan, however, last weekend I had to turn it on to keep the temperature down on my EFIS units. I connected the black wire to ground and the red wire to +12V. I switched the +12V power. I snipped and shrink wrapped the yellow wire. You can experiment with a 12V battery to confirm that is the correct wiring. -Jim 40134 On Sun, Jun 7, 2009 at 11:10 PM, Albert Gardner <ibspud@roadrunner.com>wrot e: > After the AZ sun heats up my glare shield, my Dynon EFIS sometimes > indicates it=92s overheated. > > I bought a thin computer fan to install figuring it would be both a defro st > fan as well as remove > > heat from under the shield. Albert, My Dynon was doing the same thing, here in cool NorCal. Eventually it woul d just go black. I tried venting the top of the panel (no help), and blowing some cool air up behind the panel from the NACAs (that helped a little). Finally we put a 12V fan from McMaster (P/N 1939K39) above the Dynon, blowing down on the finned part of the case. That helped a lot. I haven't seen the problem since. I don't use it as a defrost fan, just for cooling the Dynon. It takes cool air from one of the vent holes in the glareshield and blows it down from there.
