Subject: | Re: RV6-List Digest: 8 Msgs - 12/16/05 |
Now that Christmas is over.................
I am still thinking about the converting my RV-6A tail with a RV-7 vert. & rudder.
Does anyone have a finished RV-6 standard vertical stab. and rudder that
is NOT on the plane yet and are you willing to weigh it?? You know what I have
in mind. If so, I will find out just what the weight diff is and i.e. w & b
change for my plane before I jump into this. Getting a RV-7 parts weight will
be easy because we have one here.
Thanks,
Larry, RV-6A N939LT , @2R2

Larry,
The last batch of 6-6a's that went out had the -7 tail. I have one but
haven't flown it yet. Apparently it's not a W&B issue, or I don't think Van's
would have done it this way.
I doubt if it's more than a half pound heavier. I also am partners in a -6a
with the small tail, and first thing I noticed when I started flying it was
the tail wag in turb. Over time, I learned to ignore it, but then got to fly
a
-7a with the tall tail and immediately noticed the lack of wag. Also hard to
slip with the short tail, although I don't know about the tall one in that
regard.
Cheers,

Has anyone replaced the standard vertical tail on the RV-6 or 6A with the
RV-7
design? I flew a RV-7A and was amazed at the difference I believe the vert.
tail makes. Anybody ??????
Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Larry,
You're in luck...I just finished painting my VS & rudder yesterday.
Here are the weights from an unofficial bathroom scale:
Std. RV-6 VS primed and final painted 8 Lbs. (+/- 0.5)
Early RV-6 Rudder (0.016 skin) w/ tail light option primed and final painted
4.5 Lbs. (+/- 0.5)
Total 12.5 Lb. (+/- 1 Lb.)
Please report the results for comparison. I'd like to know myself.

I am new to this group and just recently took over on an older RV-6 project
(s/n 24745)
Starting with Van's website I did some searching and found Sam Buchanan's
RV6 website. His step by step pictures and commentary are very helpful and
clarifies what you sometimes can't picture looking at the directions in the
manual.
His RV-6 has a slider and I ordered a tip-up. Does anybody know where I
could find more info/pictures without going through all the RV6 listings?
