The UK company that had some NAS395-1-3's in stock wanted $1.50 each, so I gave
them a miss and ordered 50 A6187-4Z-1 at $0.30 each.
Should be getting them Monday, I'll let you know what they are like.

When I got the field approval 337 for the aft battery I had to put a vent tu
be in and drill a hole in the lower skin. Since the AGM Concorde battery had
the vent and since the original design had a vent the FAA inspector said it
was required for my field approval. Unless I wanted to go thru a series of t
ests and get backup data from Concorde to prove out a new design it was sugg
ested by the field inspector to just put in the drain
But you are right about there not being a physical need for the drain for th
e AGM battery. You can even mount them on their side or upside down.

They don't vent gas in normal operation and allegedly will not leak electrol
yte even if the case has a hole. However they do have a pressure release va
lve that can blow if they are being severely overcharged, releasing oxygen, h
ydrogen, and perhaps some acid vapor.

Oh yeah, Mine is the one with the manifold top that is a direct fit
replacement for the Tiger battery mount. The manifold has the ears on it
for the wing nuts to screw down onto the rods to hold the battery into
the mount.
I used the lightest version of the specified battery for my Tiger and
never have any start problems due to lack of voltage. That's with the
high power requirement of the Skytek starter too. Why do you want to put
in a heavier battery than the stock battery? There are other things you
can do to get the tail induced drag down.....
Probably by the time you get an STC the new Lithium ion batteries will
be available for our grummans. You might want to consider that before
investing a lot of time into a battery that will probably fade away in
the not to distant future. The lithuim ion battery will be half the
weight of the current battery. Maybe even less

You can get a stainless steel version of teh aluminum Cherokee box.
There are also some fiberglass boxes like Cessna's use. Scroll down this
link for a look see:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/batteryaccessories.html
There is a part that Bogert sells to adapt a Concord RG battery into the
Cherokee box....as I recall it is a spacer and longer bolt for the cable
connection to the battery and a nylon bushing for the battery box cable
openings. I think my mechanic just used a loger bolt with some washers
and used the existing rubber bushings when I first put in teh RG into
teh Cherokee 6....

the lid laying against it. We're seeing teh inside of the lid with the
rectangular block of wood that helps hold down the battery...
My AG5B TIger Aircraft Tiger does NOT have a battery box. It's top has
the hold down in it so you just bolt the top to the battery mount
frame. I was just going to move the mount without getting a battery box
like the Sabertooth has.
