It is the 90mph stall-speed that scares me. That is an airplane in which you are likely to get rather banged-up in even the most controlled prang. You can bet this is an airplane I would not want to fly without a good way to get my ass out of it while still in the air. I rather like the Harmon Rocket II myself. It is a good melding of "big-engine-small-airframe" performance. It goes pretty fast and climbs like a bat out of hell. The construction is simple and uses well understood materials and construction techniques that even the densest A&P can deal with. If you pull the throttle back you get a lot of drag that will help prevent overspeed on a down-line. OTOH, if you lose the engine and can't get the prop stopped, expect to glide like a brick. Still, stall speed is pretty low and you will probably walk away from a properly executed forced landing. I had an RV-4 and loved it. The only thing that bothered me about that airplane is that you could easily bust red-line on a down-line if you weren't paying attention. You could not safely split-S the RV-4 from cruise. I would not allow a split-S in mine. The closest thing I would allow is a reverse Cuban (pull to a 45deg upline before executing the roll to inverted and pulling through). (BTW, I know of an RV-4 where a military pilot executed a split-S from cruise in an RV-4 and they blew through red-line by almost 100mph before the owner could bleed off the energy. Seems he didn't understand the limits of the aircraft.) Every airplane has its advantages and disadvantages depending on the mission profile. For general "screwing around in the air" the CJ6A is a most delightful airplane. For aerobatic instruction the Yak-52 seems like the bee's knees. For one person to go cross-country with reasonable speed, efficiency, and safety it is pretty hard to beat Van's RV series. And I rather like the venerable C-150 as a primary trainer. (I love the way it spins.) I guess it is safe to say, "I never met an airplane I didn't like." -- Brian Lloyd 2243 Cattle Dr. brian-yak@lloyd.com Folsom, CA 95630 +1.916.367.2131 (voice) +1.270.912.0788 (fax) I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things . . . - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I would trust Matt Jackson about as far as I could throw him. A few years back, after the nose gear mechanism failed on my C-310, He did an insurance repair job. Short version--- took him 13 months and I got overhauled props instead of the new ones that was paid for by the insurance CO. Mat Jackson (unlimited Racer) was talking of doing just that at Reno this year. I have offered him my AI-14 to use as a mock-up for his project. It will be a single seat, carbon fiber aircraft. Only the future will know if it actually happens! Fly Safe John Fischer

I have been reading all the talk about cabin CO levels in the CJ. I was talking to Fellow CJ owner Gene Bowen last night about it, and he pointed out an existing cabin vent that no one has mentioned. The vent is aft of the left wing root on the belly, and can be opened with a Zeus fastener.

Cristian, Thank you but I will continue to get my parts from the current suppliers. Anytime Raytheon gets involved, the cost goes up by 100%. I can't speak for the rest of the YAK community, but the reason I got into YAK ownership was because it is economical to operate and a ton of fun to fly. When the cost of operation starts to exceed a certain point as it will with Raytheon supplying spare parts in the US, I will build that RV 8 I have talked about and leave the YAK behind. With the onset of winter, I'm considering adding a fleece vest with the RPA Winged Logo embroidered on the front like our polo shirts. By way of surveying the group, let me know if you would be interested in owning one of these. The vest would be in black with a full zipper front (not a pullover), zipper pockets and the RPA Winged Logo on the left breast. For this time I have not seen much ex Termikas engines. I wouldnot be writing it, but picture described by MJ would be incomplete. Yes, it could be nicely painted, which is ofcourse good. Recently I have removed engine destroyed by sheared intake valve of cyl. no.2, less than 100 hrs after overhaul. Let's be unbiast. Still Russian aerobatic team is competing and not on machines supplied by Richard Goode or Mark Jefferis. With respect. I'll take one. I think my North Face vest became obsolete today when Joyce looked at it and made that face. You know, that expression that makes you think you've stepped in something. I'll need a large, and let me know what I owe you. By way of surveying the group, let me know if you would be interested in owning one of these. The vest would be in black with a full zipper front (not a pullover), zipper pockets and the RPA Winged Logo on the left breast. Excellent point Doc. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roger Kemp To: yak-list@matronics.com Sent: Wednesday, October 26, 2005 1:38 PM Subject: RE: Yak-List: factory spare parts deposit Cristian, Thank you but I will continue to get my parts from the current suppliers.
