I was buying some Aluminum at the local supplier here in Bakersfield and one piece of 2 x 3/16 flat stock was labeled 6061-T6511. No one could explain the 6511 call out. After some research I found a Spec. that referred to the tempering of the metal in a slightly different way that the T6 call out. Every one Ive asked said that its not an issue. So the question to you is: Do you know what the difference is between the two call outs? If not thats OK and thanks for your time. Brady - I'll see you at Arlington. I specifically attended the open house to see how close I came in my efforts to upsize the 701 to 110% for space (I'm 6'4" with shoes and 240#), LSA capacity and to fit the Corvair that I'm building. I did all of this a couple of years ago and got Chris Heintz's blessing to my mod's. I'm proud to say that I'm pretty close to what the 750 turned out to be. I really liked the new panel design after sitting in the cockpit and seeing the difference it made in forward vision. They also used the 601 firewall to take advantage of existing hardware for the larger engines on the 601. I feel pretty good about continuing my scratch-build and will certainly adopt the new panel and the taller gear when I get there. I'm awfully tempted to buy that new corner extrusion and pay to ship it to Seattle - we'll see. Hello there, On ZAC=B4s website says that this airplane will never be available in kit, Is it still true? http://www.zenithair.com/news/ch750.html Currently there are no plans for the CH 750 aircraft to be offered as an aircraft kit or plans (blueprints) for amateur builders. Heintz has stated that the larger CH 750 aircraft is a new aircraft model, and not a replacement to the very popular STOL CH 701<http://www.zenithair.com/stolch701/index1.html>aircraft - which can be built from complete kits, component kits or from plans-only: Alberto Martin www.iberplanes.es Igualada - Barcelona - Spain ---------------------------------------------- Zodiac 601 XL Builder Serial: 6-7011 Tail Kit: Finished Wings: Not Started Fuselage: Ordered Engine: Jabiru 3300

Rick, The "T6" refers to the heat treatment as being solution heat treated and artificially aged. The -511 is added to specify applicability to extruded rod, bar, tubes or shapes when stretched after solution heat treatment. If you have rolled plate and not an extruded bar, the temper designation should be T651, not T6511. My ASM Metals Handbook lists the same typical mechanical properties for both 6061-T6 and 6061-T651. Further, ASTM B221 (spec for extruded aluminum bars, rods, etc) calls out the same mechanical property limits for 6061-T6, T651 and T6511. Hope that helps... It was the 701 that first caught my eye when I decided to build an airplane. But I'm a tall guy, and I figured that I had better find one to sit in before making a commitment. So when I sat in a 701 at OSH a few years ago, it was obvious that it just wasn't meant to be... [Crying or Very sad] I looked over to the 601 that was sitting a few feet away. To make a long story short, I've now got a nearly complete 601 in my garage... :D But had it been a 750 sitting there when I was first looking at an airplane to build, things may have been different. - Pat -------- Patrick 601XL/Corvair N63PZ (reserved) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=189607#189607

Alberto - The plane will definitely be available as a kit according to Caleb at Zenith - who is working the design. I could not get a firm answer on plans or even the timing of kit production. They are working feverishly to get the production unit together for Osh Kosh and will then work on the documentation and production schedule. My guess is that they'll be flooded with orders at Osh Kosh, so you may want to see if they have a waiting list for kit buyers right now. If you're a tall guy and are on the fence about the 701, it'll be worth the wait. I talked to a guy who's selling his 701 (complete from FW back) because he is a Corvair fan and likes the fit better. It will certainly be more expensive than the 701 as it is much more complete production-wise, is larger and has .020" skins. Rick, 1 x 1 x 1/8th extruded structural aluminum angle, 6061-t6, with a proper radius is available from Aircraft Spruce as p/n 03-48000. If the dimensions suit you, or if you need something that can be resized, the prices quoted are reasonable (if Zenith is not providing the angle with the radius). A word of caution, the AN bolts that they welded for the original hinge pins have a tensile strength of 125,000 psi, stainless steel is often around 75 ksi, which = 75,000 psi. So even with the larger pins you may actually have ended up with weaker hinges. Do you know specifically which alloy stainless you used? 3/16 AN bolts at 125,000 = 10818 lb.s 1/4 SS at 75,000 = 9390 lb.s This is not in shear, but I think it illustrates the point.
