the Jewish English expression "What am I, chopped liver?", signifies frustration or anger at being ignored on a social level.
An alternative explanation for the etymology of the "What am I, chopped liver?" expression is that chopped liver was traditionally served as a side dish rather than a main course. The phrase, therefore may have originally meant to express a feeling of being overlooked, as a "side dish."
Not sure I'd opt for either moniker.

Gary:
You hit the nail right on the head.
Years back - About 13 now - I would respond to a post on the GG, someone or
ones would re-post exactly what I said - NO changes at all, not even to
para phrase. And I would respond with didn't you read? I posted that
yesterday. And then "What am I Chopped Liver!" Ergo Chop'd Liver became
my call sign.
Barry
PS
I love chopped liver made with chicken fat, on pumpernickel and a raw onion
