Al,
If I am not mistaken there are currently four (4) TR-4 KIS Cruisers under construction in Texas and at least one currently flying in Texas.
Cody Austin is building in the Austin Texas Area
Dennis Frisone is building in the Boerne Texas (Also close to Austin)
Tim Sahagun is building in the Dallas Texas Area
Robert Reed (ME) is building in the Dallas / Ft.Worth Area
Galin Hernandez is in Houston with a flying TR-4
If there are any others or I have made a mistake please let me know.

I believe an automotive strut is used in the TR4. I can't be more specific as I've never removed mine. Didn't know anyone besides me and Bob Reed were still building, albeit very slowly.

Well mine isn't actually flying right now. It is undergoing a complete panel upgrade since Oct and I probably won't be done until the Feb/March time frame. :0)

Galin,
It will be worth it when its finished and gives you an idea of how much work the rest of us builders have to do.
Can't wait to see the finished product.

Robert and other TR-4 builders and owners,
I do not know of any other TR-4s in Texas. There was the Davis TR-4 transplanted to Texas but that airplane is totaled out. There is a beautiful TR-1 built by Ralph Bernhardt now owned by Ray Muse in Narogdocches, Texas.
There were about 65 TR-4s produced, 61 or 62 by Tri-R and about 4 were produced by Pulsar. Of the total production I can account for about 50 TR-4s so there are about 15 yet to find.
Robert I sent the latest version of the KIS owners and builders list to your at&t address. If any other builders and owners want a copy of the file I will be happy to send it along. I contains too much personal information to post on the web.

Mark,
Just to let you know, I did receive the list and do agree that there might be too much information to post the entire list on the web site. I will forward to anyone who needs it as well.
TO ALL:
I know that the website has not been updated in a very long time and that some of you have submitted material that has not made it to the site. The program that I have used for many years to maintain the website is no longer supported by anyone. It was the simplest program I could find that provided a what you see is what you get process and that did not involve any HTML coding. It was easy to use, was fast and worked great. The issue is that I have changed out computers and the program I have used all these years will no longer work on my new systems. I have found some other free programs (and some not so free) but none of them seem to work with the existing screens and coding without substantial redo of everything. Oh, and none of them are anywhere as quick and easy to use. The whole process of connecting to the website has also changed and I am having problems trying to make the connections to transfer files. Seems another of the programs that used to work doesn't work on my new system. None of these issues is beyond my capability to solve but they all require an investment in time that I just don't have right now. I would selfishly have to admit that I would rather spend any spare time that I have working on my plane and there isn't a lot of that.
I will try to get back to it as soon as I can but won't make any promises except to say that I just renewed the contract for the site and the web address for another year.

Hi Mark,
You can add one more Cruiser build to the list Mark K and I are starting on the (nearly) all carbon cruiser near los angeles. It should be a pretty special airplane with a 540 built like my 360 (bendix FI, 10:1 pistons, ported heads, Pmags, and an SFC of 0.4 lb/hr/ HP). We are projecting 230 mph at 12,500' with a fixed prop at 13 gph and at least 180 gallons of fuel capasity.

Robert,
I apologize I cannot read my own list, there is another flying Texan TR-4 - build by CJ Bonacum, now owned by Glen Westphal, in El Paso, Texas, a short 500 miles from you.
I also apologize the list is already out of date ... I just found another crashed TR-1 while I was looking for the post O.C. Baker was referring to about the TR-4 nose gear. But I need to see if i can confirm the incident.
Tim, Al, and anybody I sent the list to in the past - I will send out a current copy of the list for you.
Ted Scott - sit tight, I am working on a new KIS website that will feature the history of KIS, High Tech Composites, some info on the Pulsar rendition of KIS, service bulletins, and a for sale page to list all the available kits and finished airplanes around the world. This site will complement Robert, and Galin's sites, and will include links to those sites and the forum. Ted can you post pictures of your project?
Scott - I will add the Carbon Cruiser. I do not beleive either of Marks Crusiers had serial numbers. The last number I have found is Jerzey's #4059 and the Carbon Cruiser was made after that.
Graham - I apologize I meant to add information about the TR-1s but ran out of time so here it is with a couple of other TR-4 facts:
There are currently 20 KIS Cruiser TR-4s flying world wide and Robert Reed is on deck to fly next. There are 5 TR-4s that have crashed and are totaled out. The total production of TR-1s to the best of my knowledge was 130 in total (or at least that is the highest number I have found so far). There are just about 50 flying and 2 on deck that should be flying within a year or two. I can account for near 70 TR-1s. There are 10 TR-1s that have crashed and are totaled out. Sadly we lost 2 TR-1s in 2012, one might be rebuilt the other is a display on a paintball battle field in the UK. As I mentioned in a past post Rich shipped many kits into Florida but I can only identify a few.

What kind of rotary? What kind of power, speed, fuel burn, etc are you getting? What is the empty weight?
Thanks,

Mazda 13-B two rotor engine, Real World Solutions (RWS) electronic fuel
injection and ignition, RWS gear reduction 2.85:1.
~150 mph cruise at 6000 - 6500 rpm (engine). Fuel burn ~ 8.5-9 G/hr at
cruise, I estimate that I am getting between 165-170 hp, but no real way to
test it.

Hi Mark,
Mike and Marlene Pienaar are also still building a TR-4. After moving with
the project numerous times it is now finally (hopefully?) home in a hangar
at Victoria airport in BC Canada (just across the border from Seattle)
This is either kit 023 or 025 that was part of the consignment of a number
of kits delivered to South Africa. Ours has the steerable front strut.
The wings and all flying surfaces have been painted and are ready to go.
We intend installing a LOM Praha M332 C in line 4 cylinder engine with a
constant speed prop. The engine has been mounted and we are currently
finishing the engine cowling. We have not yet closed the fuselage and will
do that after wiring which will be the next step.
If you can send us a list of the other TR-4 builders it would be
appreciated.
Please advise what other information you need.
Keep well
Mike and Marlene

Tracy cook claims an sfc of 0.47 lb/hr/HP in cruise for his 13b. So 9 gal/hr is 54 lbs/hr and divide by 0.47 lb/hr/HP is 115 HP.
The sfc at 100% power is normally lower. Probably around 0.55 lb/hr/HP. So to make 170 HP at that sfc would take a bit over 15 gal/hr.
I searched but cant find a graph an sfc graph for a 13b.

~150 mph cruise at 6000 - 6500 rpm (engine). Fuel burn ~ 8.5-9 G/hr at cruise, I estimate that I am getting between 165-170 hp, but no real way to test it.

Mark,
Could you please forward a copy of the list to me. I have one of the first four TR-4s that Rich shipped to South Africa in '95 here with me in New Zealand , first flight was in 2001 but the plane has been hanger-bound for the last few years with minor technical issues that require some money and loads of time.
Regards,
David Bullen-Smith.

David,
Great to hear from you. Thanks for checking in and updating us. You were one of the early pioneers and the road was a little rough (still is), but I am glad you are still hanging in there. I will update the file with your information and send it out.
By any chance would you have any contact information for the KIS, and TEL guys?

Hello Mike,
I had seen in past posts that you made several moves. It sounds like you may be in competition with Robert Reed to be the next to fly. I will send the file out to you.
