Just did weight and balance on my Kolb Firestar 2 after Phazer swap. Plane weighed 38 lbs heavier with Yamaha than the 503 Rotax/B box with 60" Warp Drive. I also added 5" gear leg extensions, Disc brakes and am using a SPG4 gearbox/clutch that weighs 4-5 lbs (at least) more than the Rotax C box/clutch setup and a 68" Powerfin prop at the same time. Added all that stuff and 30 more HP for only 38lbs and less than half the fuel burn! WOO HOO, time to take her out and see what she will do!

				Hi Chic,
Congrats! Let us know how it flies. I'd love to see pics of your SPG4 adaptation to the Phazer, too. Post 'em here, or feel free to send them directly to me, if you still have my email address from our discussion about my Twinstar.

The Yamaha engines such as the Phazer have a 5 valve per
cylinder that really breathes. That is why the engines put
out a lot of power for their size. Steve Henry uses a modified
RX1 Yamaha in his modified Highlander.

Sorry Guys, Shortly after my post on 9 July I suffered a detached retina in my left eye and havent actually had a chance to get her off the ground yet. Took her to Kingman airport twice to fly it and both times 40-50 degree crosswinds gusting 20-25 mph and didnt want to do first flights under those conditions. Soon as I get the eye straightened up Ill put her in the air and let you know how she does. Here is pic of SPG4 gearbox on my rig. I will take some closer pics and post here tomorrow Chic

				Nice!
Can you refresh my memory? did you have to make your own adapter plate for the redrive, or did it come to you ready to bolt on?

Sorry to hear about your eye problems; that's got to be scary. My father had them in both eyes and it forced an early retirement (he was an electrician, & the doc advised that he quit sticking his hands in 'hot' electrical panels).

The SPG4 came as a package out of Russia. Paid $2400 for adapter, clutch and gearbox. 3.0 ratio with 68" Powerfin. Engine has a 12,000 rpm redline and has a 1.43 to 1 internal reduction. Most guys are proping them to 9500-10,000 engine rpm. At that, with my 3 to 1 box it will give me a wide open prop speed of around 2335 rpm.
