Hello Gents,
I have researched the forums a little but can't seem to find a solution to our problem.
We just changed our blades from the original V-530 blades to a W530 (not the scimitar design) and unfortunately the governor won't drop the RPM below 80% in flight.
I have ran up the engine fine, but once in flight, the prop RPM kept kreeping up while we accelerated.
The plane is a Yak-52.
The hub is a standard Yak hub.
Blades are set to 17° low angle as per the instructions from Whirlwind.
And we have a Russian nose cone mounted on the hub as well.
Do you guys have an idea ?

I would suggest that your problem is with the governor, and it's probable that the different blades require a higher pressure to change pitch. Have you checked the oil filter in the oil channel leading to the governor? And indeed the entrance to the governor itself? Or indeed it might be worth checking the engine oil pressure since this obviously controls governor oil pressure! And of course you can increase the governor is operating pressure.

Well, the way I understand it the governor uses oil pressure to decrease pitch. Not to coarsen it.
So I don't really see how more oil pressure would help me ?
It feels like the blades are restricted to go to a higher pitch somehow.

Of course, with aerobatic propellers the oil pressure will make the pitch more fine, so if you lose oil pressure it will become more coarse. But in the end pitch is dependent on the governor, so if there is a problem with propeller pitch it is a good place to look. Also, from what you are saying that you have exactly the same propeller hub but now with different blades – and if it worked previously with the original blades, why should it change?
Have you discussed this with Whirlwind?
