A prospective customer asked how to inspect the horizontal braces. I told him we could use a customers plane that I was working on as a sample. I didn't expect to find anything since the plane appeared to be regularly maintained (not by me, he was using another mechanic with 'Grumman experience.'). In fact, it had just come out of annual.
Here is what I found. I took pics with my new 9mm camera.
The right side is cracked all the way through. The left side is cracked at the bolt hole.
The owner won't be happy.

Yeah, have seen a lot of them with cracks. Usually in the top at the bend radius, though I have a growing stack of debonded, bent and otherwise failed HS forward attach brackets.
Have seen only 2 cracked out of the bolt holes.
If this is the worst structural issue we have on our planes that are more than 30 years old, I'm still happy with the perfect record of ZERO inflight structural failures of the AA/GA/AG/TA fleet.
