I'm in the final steps of getting the instrument panel overlays FAA-PMA approved as a direct replacement. Problem is, the FAA requires they go out with a chem film plating (alodine) for corrosion resistance. That means the 20 sets I have left can't be used.
Buy up as many as you want for $100/each including shipping. That's about $50 savings on each one. Stock them and sell them yourself. Not sure how much the PMAd parts will be.

Do I need a 337 to install one? What do they look like? (I'm an A&P but not familiar with these overlays).

As I was looking at my panel this week - with a F. Kokaska overlay - I thought to myself how happy I was to buy that years before I needed it - and how the one thing I would miss on my plane is that overlay should anything bad happen to the plane.
This is my subtle way of encouraging you to pick up this overlay today. Don't wait.
I may need to buy another just in case - its that cool.

Not that hard to alodine the parts. Find someone that is building a
metal experimental and using alodine for corrosion protection, and ask
if you can do your panel parts in his bin.
Just a thought...

Yes, I could. However, I have made a number of very small changes, mainly on the right half, to make it go together easier; I notched around the screws on the bottom of the glove box and moved the hobbs hole .015 inches up. And, I raised the right edge of the left side by .050. I sent the new drawings into the FAA. So, these don't match the drawing I submitted.

The last conversation I had with the DER about a week ago said he was working out the final details and would be sending the package for the eyebrow and overlay in to the FAA for review.
As soon as I get my back deck finished, I'll start bugging him again.
